Robert, a prominent Scottish-Canadian mining engineer and businessman, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and earned degrees in Mining Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He founded Kinross Gold in 1993, which became one of North America’s largest gold mining companies, and later established Katanga Copper, a leader in copper mining. After retiring, Robert remained active in the industry as executive chairman of Allied Nevada Gold Corp. His career has earned him numerous accolades, including an honorary doctorate from Heriot-Watt University, where he also serves as Chancellor. Marie Buchan is a distinguished philanthropist, recognized for her dedication to charitable causes. She and Robert have made significant contributions to education and sustainable energy projects, including his $10 million gift to Queen’s University and major donations to Heriot-Watt University. Together, they have supported various academic institutions and sustainable energy initiatives. Since its founding in 1979, Copernicus Lodge has been a vital home for Polish seniors in Toronto’s Roncesvalles Village. Created under the vision of Father Michael Smith, OMI, and a dedicated board, the Lodge was established to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of elderly Polish individuals. Rooted in Polish culture, heritage, and the Roman Catholic faith, it serves as more than just a residence, providing a true sense of home and community. Over the past 45 years, Copernicus Lodge has grown to serve over 400 seniors, offering a mix of independent living apartments and long-term care services. Its success is supported by the Polish community, whose donations and fundraising efforts help sustain the Lodge’s high standards of care. In 2024, Copernicus Lodge celebrated its 45th anniversary with the Galaxy Ball and the revival of the Father Michael Smith Annual Golf Tournament, fostering community spirit and raising vital funds. The Lodge also remains a proud participant in the Roncesvalles Polish Festival, showcasing its cultural heritage. As demographics shift, Copernicus Lodge remains committed to adapting and continuing its mission of providing exemplary care and honoring the traditions of its residents, ensuring a nurturing environment for future generations of Polish seniors.

At 16, Maggie immigrated to Canada from Poland, facing the challenges of a new language and culture, and later graduated at the top of her class from the Ontario College of Art. Chris and Dorota’s inspiring journey began in a modest garage in Etobicoke, Canada, in 1990, when Chris founded Mega City Linen & Uniform Supply. Born in Popławy, Poland, Chris emigrated in pursuit of his dreams, starting with a small team and a vision for growth, eventually transforming the company from a 3,000-square-foot warehouse to a 63,000-square-foot facility. Dorota, born in Kielce, Poland, in 1963, faced challenges after immigrating at 18 and went on to establish WEDS by Mega City in 2007, a premier wedding and event design studio known for its luxurious services and attention to detail. Together, they expanded their business into a comprehensive “One-Stop-Event-Shop” and navigated challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic with resilience, opening a second facility to better serve their clients. Beyond their professional achievements, their daughters, Jessica and Sandra, have pursued successful careers as lawyers, embodying the Jakubowskis’ commitment to hard work and education.

JERZY MARIA KALISKI
Founder of Krakbau S.A.
Born in 1944 in Rzeszów, Poland, Jerzy Maria Kaliski has built a remarkable legacy in both his professional and personal life. Influenced by his parents, Zbigniew and Wanda de Białynia Wójcikiewicz, he developed a strong work ethic early on. Jerzy earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Kraków University of Technology, where his thesis was recognized as the best among Polish technical universities. Married to Dorota, a historian and retired educator, he takes pride in his children, Tomasz and Patrycja, with the latter serving as Vice President of Krakbau S.A. A devoted grandfather, Jerzy values hard work, integrity, and excellence, qualities that have defined his journey. An avid sports enthusiast, he has actively participated in judo, alpine skiing, tennis, and golf. As a Knight of the Order of Saint Stanislaus, he has also championed community efforts for underprivileged and disabled children. In July 2024, his lifelong contributions were honored with the title “Personality of the 35th Anniversary of Poland.”

JOANNA KLIMCZAK

Joanna is a Canadian social entrepreneur and civil society leader born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Polish immigrants Agata Berek-Klimczak and Lech. Her mother is the Founder and CEO of the Brilliant Minded Women Organization, and her upbringing was deeply influenced by her family’s dedication to community and education. Joanna’s academic journey began at Ecole La Marsh and continued through A.N. Myer Secondary School, where she excelled both in academics and sports. By the age of 20, she was fluent in five languages, crowned Miss Teen All Canadian, and had founded Hand in Hand, an international non-profit empowering youth leadership. She actively participated in Ontario’s anti-tobacco campaigns and completed a Rotary Youth Exchange in Austria. Joanna earned a Major Renewable Academic Scholarship to McGill University, graduating with distinction in Commerce, and co-founded Organization – MyVision with Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, empowering over 10,000 young entrepreneurs. After receiving a Rhodes Scholarship, she pursued a Master’s in Public Policy at the University of Oxford, co-launching the inaugural Rhodes Venture Forum. Born in 1933 in Toronto to immigrant parents from Poland, Emily Krula embodies dedication and community spirit. Her upbringing, steeped in Polish traditions and Catholic values, was significantly influenced by her mother’s efforts to help struggling newcomers during the Great Depression. Emily’s lifelong mission to serve her community led her to actively participate in Polish-Canadian organizations, including co-founding Dom Kopernika, a cultural hub that supports Polish heritage. Demonstrating her commitment to healthcare, she fundraised for Copernicus Lodge—a long-term care home for Polish seniors—raising over $1.5 million and organizing numerous community events. In addition to co-establishing a successful family business with her husband and raising four children, Emily has maintained strong family ties, celebrated through her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her selfless dedication has left an indelible impact on her community, fostering cultural ties between Poland and Canada and inspiring countless lives.

KRZYSZTOF MAJEWSKI

Doctor Krzysztof Majewski, born in Zawiercie, Poland, has always had a passion for medicine and helping others. His early interest in dentistry blossomed during his studies at the Faculty of Medical-Dental, where he gained invaluable experience. Dedicated to continuous learning, he has participated in numerous training programs both in Poland and abroad, excelling in various fields of dentistry. As the founder of the Dentica Center for Aesthetic Dentistry and Implantology, he established a modern clinic known for its high-quality dental care. Krzysztof prioritizes open communication with his patients, ensuring they feel understood and comfortable throughout their treatment. His commitment extends beyond patient care, as he and his team engage in social and charitable initiatives to improve oral health in their local community. His leadership is reflected in his continuous pursuit of excellence, active participation in industry organizations, and connections with leading specialists worldwide. Beata, born on October 24, 1978, graduated from Częstochowa University of Technology in 2002 with a degree in Business Management and has furthered her studies with postgraduate programs and an MBA. Mateusz, born on April 23, 1978, completed his Master’s degree in International Transport and Forwarding from the University of Economics in Katowice, gaining practical experience in the logistics sector before earning an MBA in Small and Medium Enterprises. Together, they balance professional commitments with a fulfilling family life, emphasizing personal values and community. Their joint achievements in business reflect their dedication to innovation and strategic thinking, with XL LOGISTICS earning numerous accolades and operating successfully in international markets.

MARGARET MAYE
Co-Founder of the Epilepsy Cure Initiative Organization (ECI)
Margaret Maye’s life is a testament to resilience and compassion, deeply rooted in the values of empathy and solidarity instilled by her family. Born in a small town, her journey took a significant turn when her son, Tomek, was diagnosed with epilepsy, igniting her determination to support those facing similar challenges. This experience led her to co-found the Epilepsy Cure Initiative Organization (ECI) in 1997, driven by a mission to raise awareness and advocate for improved care. Margaret draws strength from her loving family, including her partner Gary and her daughter-in-law Małgosia, while her cherished grandson Daniel inspires her daily. VERA MERCIER

Vera Mercier is a distinguished Canadian entrepreneur, advocate, and philanthropist whose journey began in St. Lucia before relocating to Canada. Passionate about finance and education, she laid a solid foundation in finance by working as an auditor at the Toronto Transit Commission. Her fluency in French and English reflects her cultural dexterity and commitment to bilingual education. In 2011, she founded SKD Bilingual Child Care Centre in the Durham Region, the first French bilingual childcare center in the area. Kenneth James Michalak

Kenneth James Michalak’s illustrious career spans over half a century, marked by a deep commitment to both professional excellence and community service. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, he was inspired by his grandparents’ entrepreneurial spirit, which saw them establish a successful bakery after immigrating in the early 1900s. Kenneth is a proud father and cherishes the time spent with his family, including his daughter Lindsay, her husband Andrew, and his beloved granddaughter Callie. Alongside his life partner Agata and her children, Joanna and Patrick, he upholds deep-rooted values of family unity and community service. Outside his professional endeavors, Kenneth finds joy in fishing and exploring fine wines—a passion recognized with the WSET Level 2 Award. Włodzimierz Skleniarz was born into a family with a rich legacy in the printing industry, spanning three generations. His grandfather, Stanisław, was a typesetter who founded a printing press in Zawiercie, and his father, Marian, continued the tradition at prestigious institutions before moving to Krakow. Honoring this heritage, Włodzimierz pursued formal training in polygraphy and began his career at Zakłady Graficzne na Podwalu in Krakow. In 1989, he founded Drukarnia Skleniarz, which has since become a cornerstone of Poland’s printing industry, renowned for its reliability and exceptional service. His leadership and commitment to quality have earned him numerous awards, including the Order of Saint Stanislaus and the Gold Cross of Merit. Beyond his professional achievements, he remains dedicated to his family, passing on his passion for printing craftsmanship to his two daughters and their partners.

Jacek Żyrkowski

Since 2004, Knight Jacek Żyrkowski has been the Prior of Małopolska. He holds multiple degrees from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, including Electronics, Organization and Management, and Renewable Resources, as well as a degree in Tourism Organization and Economics from Kraków University of Economics. His professional career spans a decade with the Diocesan Management of the Catholic Action in the Archdiocese of Kraków, where he helped establish several Housing Cooperatives, resulting in around 250 housing units for young residents of orphanages and low-income families. As a teacher at Kraków’s Electronic and Tourism Technical Schools, he also facilitated ERASMUS+ internships in Italy, enriching students’ global perspectives and skills.


Marek Kramarski
Master Order of St. Stanislas
In 2009, sir Marek Kramarski GCCStS was appointed Deputy Prior of the Małopolska Province. Hailing from a distinguished Kraków family, he began his entrepreneurial journey in school, leveraging his chemical education to establish a workshop for manufacturing eyewear frames. He also managed authorized dealerships for several automotive brands and has run a Medical Products Consulting Firm since 2000. A co-initiator of the Kraków Chamber of Commerce revival, he served on its Board from 1992 to 1994. Since 1997, Marek has been involved in charitable activities, including fundraising for flood victims and supporting disabled children from the Special Educational and Care Center No. 4 in Kraków, financing rehabilitation trips and providing Christmas packages.
