ANNETTE KUSINSKI
Founder / Principal Designer of Ideal Home Design
Read More
Her path into the world of interior design defies convention. Born and raised in Łódź, Poland, in challenging circumstances, Annette displayed extraordinary sensitivity and artistic intuition from a young age. In 1994, with the loving support of her grandmother – an angel who had always watched over her – she emigrated to Canada to begin a new chapter of her life. What was meant to be a short journey to improve her English became a turning point: the beginning of her path toward freedom, self-realization, and the discovery of her inner strength.
Years later, despite many shadows life brought her, Annette found within herself the power to rise above limitation. Instead of succumbing to hardship, she turned it into the foundation of her growth. She transformed pain into a source of creative inspiration, and experience into wisdom which shaped her unique sensibility as a designer.
In 2006, guided by an innate sense of harmony, impeccable aesthetics, and artistic vision, Ideal Home Design Inc. was born, a company built on vision, integrity, and craftsmanship. Under Annette’s direction, the brand came to blend architectural insight with a profound understanding of emotion and beauty within space.
Whether transforming private residences or creating inspiring commercial environments, she is known for giving interiors a soul, crafting spaces that are not only functional, but also meaningful, enduring, and timelessly elegant.
Today, standing fully in her power, she continues to grow both professionally and spiritually. She recently completed an advanced course in decorating and redesign, further refining her mastery in the field that has become her life’s passion.
In 2025, her firm received the Excellence Award in the Construction Industry, a prestigious recognition symbolizing her resilience, determination, and remarkable contribution to the art of design.
Beyond her professional life, Annette is a proud mother to her son, Christian. In her personal journey, she has chosen peace over chaos, balance over struggle, and truth over pretend. She no longer explains or seeks validation, she embraces silence, for it brings freedom. By releasing what once drained her strength, she found herself re-newed.
Her inspiration flows from self-development workshops, drawing, travel, yoga, and time shared with close friends. An artist by nature and by heart, she continues to explore the intersections of design, culture, and human emotion, creating one space after another that reflects the beauty and resilience of the feminine spirit.
Finally, Annette shares a lesson born from her Life and her Art:
“Not everything in life can be controlled. But you can always change something within yourself, a thought, an attitude, a reaction. Sometimes the greatest transformation begins with the simplest decision: To become better than you were yesterday. Because even from the ashes, you can rise, more beautiful, stronger, and truer than ever before.”

Retired for 5 years now, Margaret’s working career spanned over 35 years with the same company. Recruited by Ontario Hydro (currently known as IESO) directly out of Ryerson (currently Toronto Metropolitan University), Margaret retired as a Human Resources/Pay Services Specialist.

Margaret is a very proud mother of her accomplished daughters and wholeheartedly loves her three adorable grandchildren, to whom she passes on the love of Polish traditions and culture.
Born in Krakow, Poland in 1979, Joanna Maj grew up with her brother Radoslaw, raised by their devoted single mother, Iwona. Her childhood was filled with love, warmth, and an early sense of community. Surrounded by a close-knit family and inspired by her grandparents, especially her grandfather Jozef, a builder and entrepreneur, Joanna learned the values of perseverance, service, and compassion from a young age.
At the age of thirteen, she helped organize her first fundraiser for a classmate undergoing a bone marrow transplant. That moment sparked what would become a lifelong commitment to humanitarian work. After her family emigrated first to Italy and later to Canada, Joanna faced the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language. Settling in Toronto’s Little Italy, she embraced her new surroundings with curiosity and courage, quickly finding joy in community involvement and volunteer work.
Education has always been a central theme in Joanna’s life. Despite the difficulties of starting over in a new country, she excelled in school and discovered her passion for helping others. At seventeen, she joined her first charitable mission to Jamaica, working in schools and hospitals. That experience changed her perspective forever, deepening her belief in empathy, service, and the power of education to transform lives.
Joanna began her professional career in the insurance industry, where she worked for more than sixteen years. Alongside her corporate work, she followed her creative instincts by developing small businesses in event coordination, floral design, and fundraising. Over time, these ventures grew into her true calling. With natural leadership and vision, she became a respected organizer of concerts, festivals, theatre productions, political campaigns, fundraisers, and golf tournaments. She is now recognized as one of the pioneers in the special events and fundraising field, known for her creativity, professionalism, and her ability to bring people together for meaningful causes.
Throughout the years, Joanna has organized many social events for children and seniors, building bridges across generations and fostering genuine connection within the community. She believes deeply in the importance of intergenerational dialogue — that communication between children, parents, grandparents, and neighbors enriches empathy, strengthens identity, and nurtures a shared sense of belonging. Her programs have often focused on bringing these generations together through art, music, education, and celebration, reminding participants that the exchange of wisdom and energy between young and old is essential to the well-being of any community.
Joanna is also part of an extraordinary team that organizes conferences for parents and teachers, exploring the importance of modern-day communication in a rapidly changing world. These events provide a platform for open dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaboration between families and educators, reinforcing Joanna’s vision of community as a living, evolving network of support and learning.
Her dedication to education, cultural preservation, and the building of generational bridges led her to establish Alderwood Academy, a Polish-Canadian full-time elementary school that reflects her lifelong belief in the importance of education and a holistic approach to life. Through this school, Joanna aims to create a bilingual environment that celebrates Polish heritage while fostering curiosity, confidence, and global awareness in every child.
As a member of the Teacher’s Association and a former candidate for Trustee of the Catholic School Board, Joanna has always sought to contribute to educational leadership and policy. These experiences reinforced her desire to make a real impact, to inspire young people and leave behind a legacy of empowerment, kindness, and community spirit. Joanna also serves on the Board of Directors at the University of Toronto for Polish Studies, Alderwood Academy Elementary School, Mississauga Polish Day Festival, and the Ontario Heroes Association.
In recognition of her experience and dedication, Joanna was invited to be one of the panelists at the Polish Embassy in Ottawa, where she shared her personal journey and reflections on identity, immigration, and the experience of being a young Polish woman building a sense of belonging in Canada. Her message resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the power of resilience, cultural pride, and community engagement in shaping the next generation of Polish-Canadian leaders.
Over the years, Joanna has been recognized for her work with numerous awards and distinctions. She received recognition from the Fundacja Polskiego Godla “Teraz Polska” for her contributions to the Polish-Canadian community, the promotion of Polish culture, and her charitable initiatives. Together with incredible teams of volunteers, she was honored with the Civic Award of Recognition from the City of Mississauga, the Cultural Heritage Award from Heritage Mississauga Foundation, and her team was a finalist for the Festival of the Year at the 2024 MARTY Awards. Most recently, Joanna was presented with the Community Service Award from the Brilliant Minded Women Foundation for her humanitarian work with diverse communities and her ongoing dedication to service.
She continues to support important causes such as the Canadian Cancer Society, SickKids Hospital, and the Cystic Fibrosis Association. Beyond her professional and charitable commitments, Joanna is a devoted mother to her daughter, Gabriella, with whom she shares her love for creativity, community, and giving back. Influenced by the remarkable women in her life, her grandmother Leokadia, her mother Iwona, and her godmother Beata; Joanna lives by the values of strength, grace, and purpose.
Her journey is one defined by courage, faith, and compassion. Joanna Maj’s life is a reflection of her belief that education, service, and generosity are the greatest legacies one can leave behind.F

Jolanta is a proud grandmother to eight energetic grandsons, each bringing joy and laughter into her life. Her journey to Canada began in 1989, when she immigrated with her three daughters to reunite with her husband. The family settled in Etobicoke, where Jolanta began working at MacFarlane Nameplate and Anodizing. Starting on the factory floor, her hard work and dedication soon earned her a promotion to Manager of Shipping and Receiving.
In the late 1990s, Jolanta and her family moved to Mississauga, where her daughters began building families of their own. As her grandchildren arrived, she embraced her role as a devoted grandmother while continuing her career. Together with her husband, Janusz, she dreamed of retiring in Ontario’s scenic Barry’s Bay region, even purchasing a small property in preparation. Sadly, life took a different turn when Janusz fell ill and eventually passed away.
After retiring, Jolanta moved in with her youngest daughter and found renewed purpose in caring for her two youngest grandsons. As they grew more independent, she sought new ways to stay active and engaged. She joined her daughters on the Mississauga Polish Day Committee, where, at 76 years young, she continues to share her time, energy, and community spirit.

Elvira Bozhani – AGAPAS will forever stay in my heart.
My name is Elvira Bozhani, and I am a proud Ukrainian from Kyiv. For seven years, I worked in national television as a journalist, editor, roadcuts director, and producer. Later, I transitioned into public communications, serving as a communications expert and working with Ukrainian local and federal representatives, governors, and ministers since 2016.
I never imagined living outside Ukraine. Kyiv was not just my home—it was the center of my life and career. But the war in 2022 changed everything. I was forced to leave and chose Toronto, Canada, as a place to start again, alone but hopeful.
In June 2022, I arrived in Toronto and began building a new life from scratch. Two months later, I discovered the AGAPAS Charity Centre. What I found there was more than practical help—it was a warm, welcoming community that gave me purpose, support, and hope.
Since August 2022, I’ve been volunteering at AGAPAS, actively involved in its projects and decision-making. The center supports newcomers with legal aid, psychological support, translation, housing assistance, and help for children and seniors. But what touched me most is the humanity—the kindness and intelligence of the people I met there, who became true friends and will forever stay in my heart.
AGAPAS opened its doors not only to those in need, but also to those searching for meaning, connection, and a sense of belonging. It helped me realize the strength of community and the healing power of shared purpose.
No matter where life takes me, I will always stay connected to AGAPAS.
Olga Donchenko: Born and raised in Ukraine, Olga moved to Canada at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. She is an artist and educator.
One of the center’s earliest and most dedicated volunteers, Olga contributes across many areas — from managing the acceptance and distribution of donations, to helping organize events, to photographing and creating photo reports, among other activities.
Her most significant contribution to the development of the Centre is her leadership of the Art Ark project. Through this initiative, she conducts unique applied arts workshops that are highly popular among Ukrainian newcomers and parishioners. These workshops play an important role in fostering socialization and providing psychological relief.
Nataliia Helion came to Canada from Ukraine in 2023 and soon began volunteering at the Agapas Charity Centre. A mother of two, she is constantly inspired by her children’s ideas and creativity. Nataliia holds degrees in pharmacy and cosmetology, yet her greatest passion has always been working with children.
Talented and creative, she loves singing, painting, embroidery, beading, as well as reading and spending time outdoors. From her very first days at Agapas, Nataliia was known for her warm smile and heartfelt willingness to help with any task. Olga Machulina was born in the USSR in 1943. She received a strong education and for many years worked in the field of patents. Olga loved her profession deeply; it allowed her to interact with many talented and creative people who were registering patents for a wide variety of inventions.
In 2020, Olga moved to Canada, where she worked with different businesses within the Russian-speaking community. Throughout her life, she has been passionate about sports and travel, developed her talent as an artist, and dedicated countless hours to active volunteer work.
Remembering the hardships of her youth in the difficult post-war years, Olga viewed Russia’s war against Ukraine as “madness, something unimaginable.” From the very first month of the Charity Centre Agapas, she began volunteering to help displaced Ukrainian families.
For more than three years now, Olga has been one of the key members of the team, actively participating in all activities. She is also the leader of a project that unites people of the “golden age.” Olga has become the heart and cultural inspiration of the team, admired for her leadership, creativity, and generosity of spirit.
